Three very popular and very talented brothers have made their way into the lives of tweens, and there is no sign of them slowing down any time soon.
While mainstream audiences and fans may not have heard of the Jonas Brothers much before 2006, when they debuted their first CD “It’s About Time”, these three brothers actually had a long list of accomplishments to their credit. Their main recognition from the tweens came when their single "Year 3000" was played on the Disney Channel. In fact, they have regular spots on the Disney Channel, who shows various music videos of this singing sensation. They also appeared in shows such as Hannah Montana and competed in the Disney Channel games during the summer of 2007, which seemed to help skyrocket their musical career even further. And in 2008 the Jonas Brothers will be launching their very own television series on the Disney Channel called, J.O.N.A.S. (Junior Operatives Networking As Spies). Born to musical parents, the Jonas Brothers grew up in a home where music was a large part of every day life. Father Kevin Jonas, Sr. is the co-founder of Christ For The Nations Music, as well as a pastor at a local church, in the bands hometown of Wyckoff, NJ. Growing up in such a musically accomplished family gave the boys a love for music, as well as a bit of inside knowledge on the workings of the music industry. While the Jonas Brothers have been playing together as a band for the past few years, each brother had solo performing experience before the band was ever formed. Kevin JonasKevin Jonas is 19 years old, and is the oldest of the three “Jonas Brothers.” Age at 13 Kevin taught himself to play guitar, simply by studying a “Teach Yourself Guitar” book that he had found laying around his parents home in New Jersey. Kevin spent about three days learning all of the major guitar chords, while he was home from school, due to illness. Not many people know that even before the band was formed, Kevin had already appeared in several television commercials, for Disney, Lego, and Burger King. Joseph JonasJoseph Jonas is 17 years old, which puts him in the spot of “middle” child. While Joe originally wanted to be a comedian, he says he always had a love for music as well. Joe’s appearance in Baz Luhrmann's Broadway production of "La Bohème" was his first performance as a singer. Joe said that watching his younger brother, Kevin, perform on Broadway was what motivated him to want to give musical theatre a try. Since discovering his talent for musical performances, Joe has never turned back. Nick JonasNick Jonas is 14 years old, and the youngest of the three Jonas Brothers. Even though Nick is the youngest, he is sometimes referred to as the motivation behind the band. At age 6 Nick was singing while getting his hair cut at a local barber shop, when a lady heard him, and gave him a card, suggesting that he should meet with a professional manager. From that time on Nick was performing in front of audiences big and small. Nick landed roles in Broadway shows like “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Les Miserables.” The BandWhen youngest brother Nick wrote a song for his Dad, in 2002, called “Joy to the World” (A Christmas Prayer) it became a huge success. The song was featured on the annual Broadway “Equity Fights AIDS” album, and later picked up by Ino Records for release to Christian radio stations across the country. By 2004 an executive at Columbia Records got wind of the song, and before long, Nick was signed. Nick went to work on what was supposed to be a self-titled solo album. Brothers Joseph and Kevin pitched in to help with the writing and recording for the album, and after Steve Greenburg, the president of Columbia Records heard “Please Be Mine,” a song which featured all three of the brothers, the group was signed as a band. With the release of the Jonas Brothers first record their music quickly rose to the top of the charts. While people often compare the Jonas Brothers to the group “Hanson,” the music styles are totally different. The Jonas Brothers consider themselves to be a mixture of rock and punk music, while the group Hanson was considered strictly pop. A second record released by the Jonas Brothers titled “Jonas Brothers” has been very successful on both the pop and rock music charts. (Star Pulse.com)
